We aim to provide an environment where:

  • Everyone feels safe and secure in a well-planned learning environment both indoors and outdoors
  • High quality care and education is consistent
  • Each child’s individuality is valued, and their achievements celebrated
  • Independence is promoted, giving children the opportunity to make their own choices
  • Respectful relationships are nurtured
  • Children are encouraged to explore and investigate the world around them and share their thoughts and experiences
  • We provide a rich language environment where communication is key

The Learning Environment

We carefully plan the environment to support both indoor and outdoor learning. Each age group have their own designated area, designed specifically for their developmental stage. We also have our own Early Years outdoor area and conservatory space.

The Outdoor Area
There is a well-resourced play area providing a wide variety of play opportunities for the children. Including: wheeled toys; balance beams; bats and balls; sandpit; water trough with waterways and pump system; potions tray; bug hotel and small garden area.  We continually adapt the outdoor environment to suit the learning needs of the children.

The Nursery Day

Once all the children have arrived, we start our day with a morning circle time and sing our hello song. We then get our bodies moving with some dancing/ yoga, which is great for building strength and coordination and to keep fit!

We spend time focusing on our fine motor skills engaging in activities such as ‘Write Dance’, cutting and sticking, painting and practising writing skills. We always have a morning snack and plenty of time to continue our learning in the outdoor environment. We have our lunch together in the Nursery and this is followed by a quiet/ sensory time in the setting. During the afternoon, we engage in lots of listening games, counting and singing! The children have opportunities to listen to stories daily.

Sessions Times, Funding & Costs

Please see the Chulmleigh Academy Trust Nursery Admissions policy for the session times. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or concerns. We will always make time to talk to you if you have questions. It is really important to share information so that we can all do the best for your child.

Key Person

When your child starts at the Nursery, we will assign them a key worker. Key workers provide personalised care and support for your child. Key workers will adapt their approach based on the individual needs, interests, and developmental stage of each child, tailoring activities and routines to support their learning and emotional growth.

The Curriculum

Our purposeful and engaging curriculum maps out progress, but also recognises that learning in the early years is not always neat and orderly and considers that pupils learn best in different ways. Each area of learning and development is implemented through planned, purposeful play, and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activities. Practitioners respond to each child’s emerging needs and interests, guiding their development through warm, positive interaction to move their learning forwards. We believe all pupils can succeed and ensure that our teaching practise is adaptive and responsive to the needs of the pupils.

Sharing Information About Your Child’s Learning and Development

We value the importance of shared communication and want to establish this from the start of their Nursery journey. Both Saffron (Foundation Stage Practitioner) and Ruth (Early Years Lead) are available at the beginning of the day for quick catch-ups. Please contact Saffron Slade via email if you would like to arrange a meeting for a longer conversation. You can see what your child has been learning in school by logging into Tapestry throughout the year. If we do not yet have your email address, please let us have it so we can register you with Tapestry. If your child does something at home that you would like to add to this Learning Journey, you are able to upload photos or descriptions of what they have done too. If you would like to discuss your child’s needs with our school Special Educational Needs and Disability coordinator, Theresa Niejadlik then please do so via email.

We Welcome Visits

We love to show off our wonderful provision and welcome visits from prospective parents.  We find that this is the most important start to your child’s experience into nursery.

If you would like to book a visit, please email admin@chulmleigh-primary.devon.sch.uk or phone the school on 01769 580535.  If you are thinking further ahead, we would also be delighted to show you around our fabulous school too.
