Official Visitor supports College plans

Sir Nick Harvey MP visits the College

We were very pleased to welcome Sir Nick Harvey MP on Friday 16th January who came to see all the building work undertaken so far.  He was accompanied by Michael Johnson, Tracey Dodd and Steve Baber, Chair of Directors, together with Year 9 students, Charlie Lane and Katie Smith who gave him their impressions of the school.

During his visit the group spent time looking at the plans and discussing the latest bid submitted to  the Education Funding Agency which, amongst other things, includes the aim of completing the Chulmleigh Community College Campus. The bid is for £1.7m and, if successful, the College will have provided a new secondary school for a total of £5.6m.  Last week, Sir Nick asked David Laws MP (Minister of State for Schools) a question in Parliament about our bid, citing it as an excellent example of achieving value for money.

This has been the most complicated bid to date and has taken more than 80 hours to assemble.  Fewer schools have made bids in this round because of the complexity associated with the process however, planning permission is in place and we are ‘ready to go’.  We should hear at the beginning of April and, should we be successful, building will start in June 2015.
