A Promising Start
Year 7's participate in North Devon Rugby Festival
On the 14th November 13 Year 7 students travelled to Great Torrington School to participate in a rugby tournament against 12 other schools from the North Devon area. The initial group stage for our team included games against Park B, Pilton A, Ilfracombe, Holsworthy and Bideford.
The squad beat Park B in the first match 2 - 0 with both tries being scored by Matt Arnold. It was the same result in the next game against a strong Bideford team, but on this occasion the try scorers were Henry Huxtable and Jonathan Panton. The third game was a close contest against Ilfracombe with Henry Huxtable scoring the only try and this success was repeated against Holsworthy with Henry scoring once again.
The final group match was against Pilton A and pitted the two unbeaten teams against each other. Our team dominated the match from the beginning but could not penetrate their defensive line despite constant pressure, eventually losing to a break-away try.
This last match loss meant that they were drawn against the group winners from the other pool, and strongest team, Park A. The semi-final started well and we were the equal of Park in the early minutes, Will Hunt suffered a nasty injury and, after a long delay, the team eventually lost 3 - 0.
Well done, lads, you did really well and I'm pleased to say that Will is on the mend!
TEAM: Henry Huxtable (c), Matt Arnold, Patrick Brady, Peter Turner, Will Hunt, Jonathan Panton, Charlie Dennis, Louie Cran, Tom Burnell, Kai Rothers, Nicky Hutter and Ben Dinnis.
